Wind Measurement and Metocean Advisory

Home » Technical Studies » Wind Measurement and Metocean Advisory

Offshore energy development carries the unique challenge of balancing design, financial and project certification. An optimal quality wind resource and metocean measurement campaign set the basis for any succeeding energy yield or design-related studies and processes impacting the certainty of energy yield.

OWC combines first-hand research knowledge in the field of wind measurements with practical experience from a large number of commercial project assignments. We assemble technical experts from different disciplines to develop the optimal measurement concept, tailor solutions and manage campaigns on behalf of our clients, including data processing and quality control. We primarily work with classical anemometry but also have the capacity to identify and manage opportunities utilising novel technologies such as scanning lidar.

Case Study

Market challenges

Unique environmental challenges from new markets.

Increasing costs in classical measurement techniques.

Increasing pressures on driving down CAPEX, OPEX and LCOE.

More extreme environmental conditions for floating wind.

With current changes in the market environment and classical measurement techniques becoming more and more expensive, Floating Lidar technology becomes a true alternative, providing cost-cutting and more flexible wind measurements to the project. Having provided technical and consultancy services to several Floating Lidar deployments in commercial projects, OWC is a leading technical advisory in the field of Floating Lidar technology and measurements.

Safety in Numbers: Benefits of Portfolio Diversification in Renewable Energy Investment

Owning and operating a single renewable asset, such as a wind farm, can prove to be risky for investors. Factors such as variable site conditions, seasonality (and, by extension, climate change) can all translate into an unstable and unpredictable return on investment. Those looking to enter the ring might consider diversifying their portfolio of assets in order to reduce financial risk.
