OWC delivers technical due diligence work for Kansai’s floating wind investments
Renewable energy consultancy OWC today announces that it was appointed as technical advisor for Kansai Electric Power Company (Kansai) to support the Japanese utility’s recent investment in Norwegian floating offshore wind specialist Odfjell Oceanwind.
As technical advisor, OWC provided technical due diligence services to support Kansai in its management and investment decision. The technical due diligence scope includes various technical aspects and studies including cost engineering, consortia and contract assessments, gap analysis of seller’s business model structure, supply chain engineering, evaluation of seller’s engineering capabilities and track-record, assessment of foundation design, fabrication and assembly, transportation and installation (T&I), operations and maintenance (O&M) plans to identify potential risk profile for upcoming projects.
With a track-record of over 100 GW of M&A-related offshore wind technical due diligence work, OWC brought together a multi-disciplinary in-house team to cover all required technical aspects. These included engineering expertise in marine systems, integrated loads analysis and structural engineering to support floating technology assessments, O&M teams, market study specialists, bid advisory team and contracts team.
“OWC’s strategy is to drive the floating wind market forward by developing and providing expertise to de-risk projects and propel them towards successful commercialisation and bankability for our clients. Our technical due diligence work enables the client to make sound management decisions and final price amendments to successfully close the deal and enter into a new market.”
Christian Apeah, Head of Independent Engineering, OWC
Last year, OWC also provided technical due diligence services to Kansai when it invested to become part of the Odfjell Oceanwind-led UtsiraVIND consortium that seeks to participate in the upcoming tender process to develop, build and operate a floating wind park on Utsira Nord offshore Norway.
“We were delighted to provide Kansai with our significant expertise in floating technology and design studies, as well as our local knowledge in the Norwegian market and supply chain, to increase their confidence in their investment decisions. Both projects reflect the unique value OWC offers our clients – with our established presence and teams in both Japan and Norway, as well as applying our experience across more than 50 floating wind projects worldwide.”
