Meet the Team: Charlie Spicer | OWC APAC

At OWC, our teams are constantly expanding into more locations, in expertise, and in sectors of influence. Our people are at the heart of what we do, and we invite you to get to know our team members so you can meet the energy behind change.

This week, we meet Charlie Spicer, a Geotechnical Engineer, based between our offices in Seoul and Taipei!

Position: Geotechnical Engineer

Office: Taipei and Seoul

Describe Your Work in Three Words: Mitigating Climate Change

Hobbies Outside of Work: Adventures in nature, running, and cycling!

What inspired your interest in geotechnical engineering? Was there a moment or experience that sparked your passion?

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges that we have ever faced, and it will remain so for generations to come.

Studying engineering at university, I was fortunate enough to gain the skills and knowledge to choose between two distinct paths: a career contributing to the problem, or a career contributing of the solution. I wanted to be a part of the solution, so joined OWC as a graduate!

What does a typical day in your position entail – any exciting projects in the pipeline?

Currently, I am the Package Manager responsible for planning and delivering the site investigations for the Anma Offshore Wind Project in Korea. In 2025 we are planning four types of surveys: geotechnical, geophysical, UXO, and drone. The data collected from these surveys is essential for the detailed design of the wind farm’s foundations and cables. My day-to-day work involves overseeing the planning and execution of these surveys, coordinating the various teams involved, and ensuring that the necessary data is acquired efficiently and on schedule.

How has OWC supported your professional development?

OWC has played a key role in my professional development – having started as a graduate, it’s provided me with the exposure, experience and support I need to take the senior technical and managerial roles and responsibilities that I have today.

In particular, being given the opportunity for international secondment to Taiwan and Korea has accelerated my development. The markets in APAC are challenging and dynamic, which has pushed me to learn quickly.

What do you enjoy most about working within the ABL Group?

There are three things that I’ve most enjoyed about working within the ABL Group. First, working in teams of talented and supportive colleagues from around the world, second, being given opportunities to work on variety of interesting and challenging projects, and finally, being given the chance to work internationally – which has been incredibly rewarding.
