OWC acts as lenders’ advisor to Kansai’s Windanker investment
Renewable energy consultancy OWC has been appointed as the independent lenders’ technical adviser (LTA) to support Santander and other incoming lenders in Kansai’s bid to acquire a 49 percent stake in the Windanker offshore wind project.
It was announced earlier today that Kansai, supported by a consortium of lenders including Santander, intends to acquire an ownership share in the ready-to-build Windanker project.
The Windanker project is a major offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea, located about 40 kilometres offshore Germany. It consists of 21 x 15MW wind turbine generators on monopile foundations, with a combined capacity of 315MW. The development also features advanced inter-array cable systems, single-circuit export cables, supported by a high-voltage offshore substation with reactive compensation. The project is being developed by Iberdrola through the Windanker GmbH.
The appointment as lenders’ technical adviser highlights OWC’s expertise in delivering comprehensive technical and environmental reviews to the global renewable energy market.
OWC’s role is to conduct a technical and environmental due diligence (TDD) prior to financial closing of the transaction. The TDD report will address technical and environmental risks and recommending mitigation strategies to ensure bankability for Santander and syndicating lenders.
“Being appointed as lenders’ technical adviser to this major transaction showcases OWC’s ability to manage complex project finance transactions,” says Christian Apeah, OWC’s Head of Independent Engineering.
“As OWC continues to grow its presence in Germany, we are committed to enabling successful project financings that pave the way for a more sustainable future. This partnership with Kansai is a testament to our ability to bridge technical expertise with strategic growth opportunities in renewable energy,” adds Christian Apeah.
OWC is part of Oslo-listed ABL Group ASA, a global consultancy with a track record of supporting more than 330 offshore wind projects across 36 countries, making it a trusted partner in the development of renewable energy worldwide.
Last month, OWC’s sister company – energy and marine consultancy ABL – announced that it had been contracted by Iberdrola to provide marine warranty survey services to support the offshore construction of Iberdrola’s 315 MW Windanker offshore wind farm.
