OWC and Time for Geography recognised for contributions to geoscience education

OWC recognised with the Highly Commended Geographical Association Publishers’ Award through collaboration with Time for Geography.

OWC has been recognised with the Highly Commended Geographical Association Publishers’ Award through its collaboration with Time for Geography, the UK’s open-access, dedicated video platform for geography and geoscience education, developed in partnership with leading universities, employers and educational organisations.

The award recognises career videos and resources developed to guide young people towards further study, training and careers connected to OWC’s sector, and reflects the educational value of a collaboration designed to strengthen the future geography-geoscience talent pipeline.

(c) Time for Geography – created in partnership with OWC’s Geoscience team.

The recognition comes as Time for Geography, in partnership with OWC and many other companies, delivers the largest ever Geography-Geoscience careers intervention across UK schools and universities through its national and international audience.

Having already reached an audience of over 2.5 million this academic year, the initiative is not only delivering scale, but is now also receiving national recognition from the educational community for the quality and value of what it is producing for students, teachers and schools. Through a Careers Insight Videos collection, Careers Explorer, Jobs and Opportunities Portal and Options and Open Days Pack, the collaboration is helping young people understand where geography can lead, how school and university pathways connect to careers, and what real opportunities exist in sectors such as that represented by OWC.

“This recognition is a testament to the fantastic support of OWC, to the way the organisation has engaged with us so actively and collaboratively, and to our shared vision for strengthening the future of geography and geoscience education and the talent pipeline of critical UK industries. It is a powerful endorsement from the educational community of both the quality of this work and the importance of the mission behind it.”

Neil Thurston

“Geography-geoscience fields are constantly evolving as our world changes, adapts to climate change impacts, and construction moves to new territories. Ensuring we encourage and develop young talent in the geosciences is critical for the continued development of a sustainable renewable energy and offshore wind sector. We are therefore really pleased and proud to have the opportunity to work with Time for Geography in this project. We also want to congratulate them on the massive achievement of reaching over 2.5 million students this academic year alone.”
