At OWC, our teams are constantly expanding into more locations, in expertise, and in sectors of influence. Our people are at the heart of what we do, and we invite you to get to know our team members so you can meet the energy behind change.

This week, we chat with Shrey Aggarwal, a Junior Consultant in our energy storage team!

Position: Junior Consultant – Energy Storage

Office: London

Favourite Song: Pretty much anything John Mayer

Hobbies Outside of Work: Brewing and nerding out over coffee!

Can you give us a glimpse into your day-to-day life at OWC?

Since I’ve only recently joined the team, a lot of my days have been spent going over training materials.

Over the coming months, I’m excited to get involved with Technical Due Diligence (TDD) work where I will be responsible for reviewing the validity and suitability of agreements and contracts for new BESS projects under development.

What inspired you to join your profession?

While at University, I interned at a renewable energy supplier and found it extremely rewarding to contribute to the energy transition. However, as an engineer, I felt like I could better contribute to the energy generation sector, as opposed to the energy supply. Hence, the decision to work for an engineering consultancy specializing in renewables!

Can you share with us something exciting you are currently working on?

For my first project with the OWC Onshore Renewables Team, I am currently working on a Lender’s Technical Advisory (LTA) project for a developer who is building four Solar PV and BESS hybrid projects in the UK. An LTA is a kind of TDD scope where we provide a third-party review on a project or portfolio of projects for a bank and comment on the technical suitability of the projects to receive financing.

Looking ahead, what do you think is key to driving sustainability in your region?

I work within the Energy Storage team, and while Battery Energy Storage Systems aim to solve the problem of intermittency of power supplied by renewables, the installed battery capacity is still very limited due to market immaturity and high costs. Amid growing policy uncertainty, a sustainable rollout of energy storage projects would depend heavily on their ability to compete on market fundamentals like their return on investment. OWC’s TDD work can ensure that the projects that receive financing are profitable for stakeholders, thereby encouraging further investment in the sector.

Besides work, what do you enjoy most working within the ABL Group?

The office’s location in the City, and taking the walk across London Bridge from the station to the office.
