Meet the Team: Patricia Mayoral Gregorio | OWC Nantes

This week at OWC, we are celebrating World Engineering Day ( March 4) and International Women’s Day (March 8). We are proud of the women engineers across our renewables teams. That’s why we’re spotlighting colleagues and sharing what they do, what inspires them, and what advice they would give to the next generation of women engineers.

Meet Patricia Mayoral Gregorio.

Patricia first joined OWC from Innosea, the French marine renewable energy specialist that was rebranded as OWC in 2025.

Position: Snr Engineer

Office: Nantes, France

Patricia, what’s your role and what kind of engineering work do you focus on?

As a Senior Engineer, I specialise in load assessment for both onshore and offshore wind turbines.

My work focuses on understanding how turbines behave under real‑world conditions, from extreme events to long-term operational stresses. I also contribute to R&D initiatives that integrate machine learning into load estimation, helping us improve accuracy and reduce computational time.

More recently, I’ve been concentrating on improving our lifetime extension services to help our clients operate wind farms beyond their original design life.

What’s one project or area of your work that you feel really contributes to progress or sustainability?

My work contributes directly to advancing renewable energy by improving how we assess and optimise wind turbine loads.

Recently, I’ve focused on extending asset life, reducing material use, avoiding unnecessary replacements or decommissioning, and increasing clean energy generation from turbines already in the field.

What do you enjoy most about being an engineer in our industry?

What I enjoy most about being an engineer in our industry is the chance to turn complex technical challenges into meaningful solutions. Engineering in our industry combines innovation with real-world constraints, which keeps the work exciting. I love collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, learning continuously, and knowing that our work contributes to building a cleaner, more sustainable future.

As part of World Engineering Day and International Women’s Day, we’re highlighting how our colleagues’ careers have evolved – and what brought them into our industry. Looking back, what support, knowledge, or opportunity has made the biggest difference in your career so far?

Looking back, the biggest turning point in my career was accepting the opportunity to work abroad for the first time. It pushed me completely out of my comfort zone and taught me to adapt, communicate clearly, and grow both technically and personally. That experience gave me the confidence to take on new challenges and shaped the mindset I bring to my work today.

Was there a mentor, colleague or team who helped you grow – and how did that support show up?

I’ve been fortunate to work with great colleagues throughout my time in the wind industry, and their support has played a big role in my growth. A key moment was when some of my current colleagues trusted in my abilities while I was looking for a new opportunity. Because of the work we had done together in the past, they believed in what I could bring to the team, and that trust made all the difference.

One of this year’s International Women’s Day focus areas is the power of mentorship and support. How do you try to give back – whether through mentoring, sharing knowledge, or supporting others?

I try to give back by being approachable and by openly sharing my experience. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot from facing different challenges, and I enjoy passing that knowledge on to more junior colleagues. Whether it’s technical guidance or navigating situations I encountered earlier in my career, I try to support them so they can grow with more confidence.

What advice would you give to female talent considering a career in engineering today?

My advice is: be curious, trust your abilities, and don’t be afraid to take on challenges that feel ambitious. Engineering offers so many paths, and none of them are defined by stereotypes. Your perspective and your strengths are valuable, and they absolutely belong in this field.
