This week, we speak to Olamide Shittu – a consultant for onshore renewables based in our Brighton office.
Position: Consultant, Onshore Renewables
Office: OWC Brighton, United Kingdom
Hobbies: Photography and Powerlifting
Favourite Song/Book: Currently, my favourite song is “Child of God” by Forrest Frank. My favourite book is “So Good They Can’t Ignore You” by Cal Newport
What does your day-to-day look like at OWC?
My typical day for me at OWC will look like working on analysing the performance of a solar PV plant (pre-construction or operational).
Alternatively, it could be working on a technical due diligence to support a client on the acquisition, sale or financing of a renewable energy project through providing independent technical advice.
What inspired you to join the industry?
I’ve always been interested in energy and power generation even as a child. I joined renewables specifically because I’m drawn to the idea of better ways to do things and renewable energy technologies are a better way to do power generation.
Can you tell us about something exciting you are working on right now?
I’m supporting on a lifetime analysis of a multi-gigawatt portfolio.
The projects range from early development to operational projects, and it’s been really interesting to think through the different needs of each project and to see the technology evolution, particularly the difference in the solar panels and inverters installed 5 or 6 years ago compared to what will be installed today.
What does the future look like in energy and oceans in the United Kingdom?
That’s a big question! But I’m of the opinion that it looks like hopeful, particularly within the UK, certain steps have been made in the right direction. There’s still a lot to do but I think it looks like hope.
What do you enjoy most about working as part of OWC Brighton?
The work culture, it’s really nice to be doing great work with great people in a great environment.
