This week, we speak to Jessica Watts – an engineering geoscientist based in our London office.

What does your day-to-day look like at OWC?
My day to day generally consists of analysing geotechnical and geophysical data to assess the seabed and subsurface soil conditions, as well as identifying geohazards for offshore wind farms.
My work covers a range of projects, including cable burial risk assessments, geohazard assessments and helping to contribute towards the development of ground models.
What inspired you to join the industry?
I had an interest in oceanography and offshore geohazards, and I wanted to learn more about offshore geology to understand how it influences to the development of offshore infrastructure, particularly offshore wind.
Can you tell us about something exciting you are working on right now?
I’ve been working on a range of cable burial risk assessments across various geographies. Each location presents its own, sometimes complex geology, making every project interesting and each one unique in its challenges.
What does the future look like in energy and oceans in the United Kingdom?
Offshore wind is expected to continue growing in the UK, with technology and methods constantly advancing. This makes it a dynamic and fascinating industry to work in.
What do you enjoy most about working as part of OWC London?
I enjoy the inclusiveness and vibrancy of the London office, along with the variety of social activities we participate in.
